:(269):Can and Could: Differences
Both can and could are modal auxiliary verbs. Can is used to talk about present or general
ability. Could is used to talk about ability that existed in the past.
Compare:
She can knit.
He can speak ten languages.
She could write when she was three.
Note that we use will be able to and not can to talk about future ability.
You will be able to speak good English in a few months.
One day scientists will be able to find a cure for cancer.
In reported speech
Could is the past tense form of can in reported speech.
‘Can you help me,’ she said to him. (Direct speech)
She asked him if he could help her. (Indirect speech)
Possibility
Can is used to talk about theoretical possibility.
Glass can be blown.
Accidents can happen any time.
We use may, might or could to talk about the chances that something will actually happen.
It could rain this evening.
We may/might go camping this summer.
Can is used in questions and negatives to talk about the logical possibility that something is true.
‘There is the doorbell.’ ‘Who can it be?’ ‘Well, it can’t be the postman.’
Note that can is not normally used in affirmative sentences with this meaning. Instead we use may, might or could.
‘Where is John?’ ‘He could/may/might be at the library.’ (NOT He can be at the library.)
Permission
Can is used to ask for and give permission. Can’t is used to refuse permission.
‘Can I have a look at your papers?’ ‘Yes, of course, you can.’
‘Can I have another cup of coffee?’ ‘No, I am afraid, you can’t.’
Could is also used to ask for permission. Note that could is more polite than can.
‘Could I have a look at your papers?’

( CommOn misTakes )
advice vs advise Advice is a noun, which means an opinion that someone offers you about what you should do or how you should act in a particular situation.
For example: "I need someone to give me some advice."
Advise is a verb, which means to give information and suggest types of action.
For example: "I advise everybody to be nice to their teacher."
a lot / alot / allot A lot, meaning a large amount or number of people or things, can be used to modify a noun.
For example:-
"I need a lot of time to develop this web site."
It can also be used as an adverb, meaning very much or very often.
For example:-
"I look a lot like my sister."
It has become a common term in speech; and is increasingly used in writing.
Allot is a verb, which means to give (especially a share of something) for a particular purpose:-
For example: "We were allotted a desk each."

Many foodstuffs are considered uncountable when prepared and countable in the field or on the farm:
I like apples, chickens, and tomatoes on the farm.
I like apple pie (baked apples still look like an apple), roast chicken, and pizza with tomato and pepperoni in the restaurant.
We normally use the plural of countables because it is not any one of them that we like,we like it all

There are many ways to give your (http://www.tran33m.com/vb/t56607.html)opinions (http://www.tran33m.com/vb/t56607.html)when speaking English. The exact English expression you use depends on how strong your (http://www.tran33m.com/vb/t56607.html)opinion is.

Sometimes you don't know what to say in a conversation. Perhaps you don't have any words to express yourself, or you haven't understood the other person. Or perhaps there isn't anything left to say! In all these situations, it's important to avoid being silent, so here are some words and expressions to use.
http://m002.maktoob.com/alfrasha/up/1359256985949389015.gif (http://forum.5aa5.com/t40127.html)
When you don't understand
"Sorry, I don't understand."
"Sorry, could you repeat that?"
"Sorry? I didn't get that."
http://m002.maktoob.com/alfrasha/up/1359256985949389015.gif (http://forum.5aa5.com/t40127.html)
Looking for words to express yourself
You don't want to be completely silent, but you need time to find the words.
"Well…"
"OK…"
"So…"
You can even make some "noises"
"Hmmm…"
"Uh-huh"
"Umm…"
http://m002.maktoob.com/alfrasha/up/1359256985949389015.gif (http://forum.5aa5.com/t40127.html)
To agree with the other person
You want to show that you agree, but you don't have anything else to say.
"Yeah."
"Right."
http://m002.maktoob.com/alfrasha/up/1359256985949389015.gif (http://forum.5aa5.com/t40127.html)
To change the subject
You've all given your opinion, and now you want to talk about something else.
"Anyway,…"
"Well, as I was saying…"
"So, back to …"
"So, we were saying …"

الفرق بين To و For
Why did you buy books?
To learn English
لماذا اشتريت الكتب ؟
لأتعلم اللغة الإنجليزية
He wants me to go with him
يريدني ان اذهب معه
B - او للقول بما يجب ان يُفعل
Sir: What do you want to eat ؟
ماذا تريد ان تأكل ؟
Plants need water to live
تحتاج النباتات للماء لتعيش
2- To تستخدم مع الأسم
وهنا تكون بمعنى الوصول الى شئ معين او منطقة معينة ..مثال :
last week , I went to Reyad
ذهبت الى الرياض في الأسبوع الماضي
Fares will travel to London to study English
For :
I am going to Dammam for one week
سأذهب الى الدمام لأسبوعً واحد
لكن مع To تصبح هكذا
I am going to Dammam to visit my friends
سأذهب الى الدمام لأزور اصدقائي
My friend invited me for dinner
دعاني صديقي للغداء
My friend gave me meat to eat
اعطاني صديقي لحم لأكله
لاحظ الفعل eat بمعني (يأكل ) لا يمكن ان ياتي قبله حرف الجر for
لو قلت :
My friend gave me meat for eat
ْXXX
هذه الجملة خطأ والسبب يعود لان For لا تدخل على الفعل وإنما الاسم
احياناً ياتي اسم الفعل ( اسم الفعل هو الفعل الذي تحول الى اسم بإضافة ing ) بعد For وهذي الحالة تعتبر صحيحة كون الفعل اصبح اسم لذلك من الممكن ان نستخدم قبله For للقول بسبب وجود شئً ما
مثال :
This knife is only for cutting bread
هذه السكينة لقطع الخبر فقط
For cutting لقطع ...سبب وجود السكينة ..وظيفة السكينة
مصدر الفعل : cut يقطع -- اسم الفعل cutting قطع
هذا بشكل مختصر عن إستخدام For
اذا ناتي لخلاصة إستخدام For :
For --> مع الاسم --> مع اسم الفعل
خلاصة متى إستخدام To و For
To: مع الفعل او الاسم : الفعل لسبب وقوع الفعل او للقول بما يجب ان يفعل , ومع الأسم الوصول إلى نقطة معينه
For: مع الأسم او اسم الفعل
تحياتي لكم :1:
