In order to take efficient notes, we must the student is forced to listen carefully and critically to what is being said. Taking notes aids comprehension and the retention of information. Personal notes in one's own writing are easier to understand and remember than textbook material. Lecture notes combined with notes from textbook material are an excellent source of review. They provide a gauge to what is important in the textbook.

"Elision" occurs when the same or similar sounds come into contact in speech, e.g., " a bad time". In this example, the sounds b & d elide to a single sound. Can you think of other examples using other sounds? How about in your language?
