The Novel
It's interesting, and a real joy to read. But I have a thought that it's also a waste of time
So I convince myself by saying it's like a movie

Don't you think that reading novels or any literary works would enrich your language skills like expanding your vocabulary and syntax ..

But that's for English novels, and I was speaking about novels in general
Yesterday I finished listening to a novel as an audio book - 8:34 hours in length - and it it was fun

For Arabic novels I'm still hesitating

And also Rose, for the purpose of improving my language I have bought an old English novel, Tom Sawyer
It was written by Mark Twain about 150 years ago
I faced a hard time understanding its first two chapters
Its language was difficult. Not the language like Shakespeare's of course, but it was written in the everyday American language, and full of old idioms and old uses of some words that I have to search the net to know what does he mean by this or that
So I gave up reading it from the beginning
Although it was so beautiful novel

I talked with an American doctor about it and how it was so difficult for me to understand, he said no wonder, because we take it in school and it is not easy for us to understand

one of the old slang uses is the word "learn", in this novel when Tom says"I will learn you" it means I'll teach you or you'll pay for it

This doctor told me that his grand mother uses this form, she tells him "If you don't know how to make this I'll learn you"

Except that I dont like audio books ..
And yea..once I tried to read Shakespeare's "
Hamlet" ..I just got headache

So I moved to the easier ..like Paulo Kohelo's book
Still need to translate some words for sure
...

Audio books suits me more
I buy books from Audible and listen to thim while I am driving to /from work and while excercising

No doubt paper books are easier to grasp, but I figured out that audio books are easier to accomplish
