the one who read the translated text should understand the same understanding when someone read the source language text. that is the equivalence.

The main characteristic of good translator are : reliability, timeliness, ethics, speed, memory and professional pride.

Discuss the main characteristics of a ‘theory’ with special reference to translation.
1. Empiricism: It must be testable. 2. Determinism: It must be able to predict. 3. Parsimony: It must be simple. 4. Generality: It must be comprehensive.

Discuss the elements of translation and their interaction with one another.
Source Language (SL) -> Source Text (ST) -> Translator -> Translated Text (TT) -> The Language of Translation -> Target Language (TL).

Discuss the concepts of ‘process & product’ with special reference to translation.
- It is a complex cognitive operation which takes place in the mind of the translator. - This operation helps the translator to interpret and extract the meaning of the original text and re-encode this meaning in the target language. -It is simply the abstract translating activities that take place in the mind of the translator before the production of the translated text.

Discuss the main differences between a communicative approach and a semantic approach to translation.
Communicative Translation: It attempts to render the exact contextual meaning of the original in such a way that both content and language are readily accepted and comprehensible to the readership. Semantic Translation: It differs from ‘faithful translation’ only in taking more account of the aesthetic value (that is , the beautiful and natural sound) of the SL text.

Discuss three ecological problems in translation.
Ecology covers the following : flora, fauna, winds, plains, hills; ‘honeysuckles’, ‘downs’, ‘plateau’ As for the species of flora and fauna are local and cultural and are not translated unless they appear in the SL & TL environment. Some ecological terms cause problems in translation such as الناقة ، الحبة السوداء?،

Discuss the main difference between literal and free methods of translation used in the Abbasid age.
Y??anna bin Batriq’s method, the literal way- has some demerits. This is due to the linguistic differences between Arabic and Greek. Arabic, for instance, cannot provide equivalences to all words in Greek. For this reason words like: falsafa = Philosophy d?m?qra?ya = democracy Still exist in Arabic. ?unayn bin Is?aq’s method –the free way- which has been favoured and preferred to the literal method of bin Batriq, because it gives the translator the liberty to omit what is not necessary and add what is necessary for the understanding of the message to be translated.

An interpreter can act as a translator but a translator can not act as an interpreter. Discuss
Because Translation involves only written texts. but Interpreting involves only spoken texts.

Discuss the role of machine translation in Arabic/English-English Arabic Translation nowadays
This kind of translation needs post-editing by human translators.

Discuss three lexical problems in Arabic/English- Arabic Translation.
It is : translation problems at morpheme, word, and above word levels, as الم is a very complex one which causes a very serious translation problem in form and meaning.

1- Numbers: there is no مثنى in English.
2- Gendar : like الناقه , وانت وانتِ
3- Person : like third person is you in English but in Arabic هو و هي وهم all are you.

Mason doughter of Bhdl Al kalbaih wife of Maaouya may (Allah be pleased with him) said:
A house that full of people, more beloved to me than a very height palace alone. And wearing a cloak is better for me , than to wear transparent clothes.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of The Theory of Translation Course?
The advantage : I had learned some new skill and methods to use in translation, and the disadvantages is there is not a lot of example to take it as explanation for those methods.

لقيتها ضمن اسئلة اختبارات سابقة جايه باخر الملزمه
وكل الاسئله كانت عن منهجنا الا هالسؤالين مالهم حل
حتى الي صححوا الاجابات كاتبين انوو ماعرفوا حلهم
لكن انا اتوقع انها من منهج ثاني ممكن تكون من المناهج القااادمه للترجمه
احنا ما درسنا شيء اسمه نظرية المترجم
ولا اشتقاق نظرية الترجمه
