هذا هو البراقراف كامل Darwin’s most important book after The Origen of Species is The Descent of Man (1871), which applies the ideas of the earlier book to the human race. Wallace didn’t agree with Darwin in this; he believed that natural selection alone could not have produced the human brain.

الشابتر الي معنا من 8-15 Historical background Change is so drastic , some changes have been fir better : 1-votes and employment for women . 2- free school for every one . 3-social welfare programs . 4- advances in science & technology , but these very achievements have created problems: A-technology has brought pollution B-outside Britain , the end of the cold war has brought violence & economic chaos to people used to a modest but guaranteed standard of living. World War I (1914-1918) -modern poetry – 1-the war silenced those who thought they would find heroism and beauty in it . 2-the realities of war fare were soon impressed on civilians and poets fighting in the war . 3-the slaughter into which the leader of society had led them had been purposeless, meaningless. World War II (1939-1945) 1-the effect of world war II on civilization population throughout Europe was big disaster (catastrophic) 2-the after math of world war II Disintegration of the British Empire ( independence Early 20th century Literature There are momentous changes in school and political life : 1-the struggle for women's rights was reaching a climax . 2- the movement for Irish independence gained momentum free state in 1929 3-the laboring class made important gains in political power and living standers . 4- the literature reflected these changes turning to lower middle class and working life class. 5- political and social themes continued to occupy writers. 6- impressionistic literature can basically be defined as when an author center his story \ attention on the characters mental life such as the characters impressions , feeling , sensation and emotions, rather than trying to interpret them . Author such as Virginia Woolf (Mrs. Dalloway ) and Joseph Conrad (Heart of darkness). 7-impressionism become increasingly important in poetry and fiction \ closer to Romantic and Victorian ideals symbolism \ associated with the slogan ( art of art's sake ) symbolist poets looked upon everyday reality as sordid and used symbols to suggest the existence of higher reality accessible only through mystical intuition or art . 8- death of religion people lost faith in religion and started to look for substitutes * Art * Imperialism First world war poets 1-poetry written about war 2- the term ( war port ) has arisen because the First world war produced a distinct and unique body of poetry about that war written by young men who were for the most part born with a few years of each other , many of whom died within a few months , and even a few miles of each other . 3- they have a sharper and more painful view of the suffering caused by one man to another. 4- they are : Ropert Brooke , Siegfried Sassoon , Wilfred Owen , Isaac Rosenberg . 5- they all fought in the First world war and all were killed except Sassoon who was badly wounded . Twentieth-century drama George Bernard show : 1-the impact of realism and naturalism is evident in his work. 2- He did offer his audience more than opinion .He offered them laughter as well , for he was a writer if comedy . 3- He managed to move the serious play out of the Victorian drawing room into the world at large Ancient Egypt , Roman Empire , American war of independence Napoleon Adam and Eva . 4- He also wrote about life and ideas in his own day ( religion and capitalism , socialism and evolution , social class ) . 5- He is a leading figure in what has been called the " Theatre of idea " A number of features have guaranteed show's survival as a dramatist , both in critical terms and on the stage : A-he was an excellent technician with both a greater respected and a great knowledge of theatrical from and play construction .He delighted in saying and showing the opposite of what his audiences expected . B- He is highly original in taking a conventional type of character and turning it inside out , and revealing the new varies as the truth ( by using sharp witty language ) . Modern British Drama In the mid 1950 authors found the courage to shock their conventional audiences , and to write what they wanted to write what rather than what the audiences want to do . This new , dramatic writing sprang from a society where theatre was become more widely available , and where education was helping to produce to produce vocal and literate young writers from all classes ( art for art's sake ) Arnold Wesker 1-He was concerned to show the realities of everyday life for ordinary people , but with a clearer note of social criticism . 2- Kitchen Sink Drama : it came to represent a whole generation of young people who felt that they had no say in the running of society that was corrupt and rotten and which was in effect run by these older than themselves entirely in their own interest . The language of the play is colloquial and rough , the sitting is naturalistic and the voice of protest is very audible. Samuel Beckett : 1-His works is an example of twentieth century drama : the individuals search for and the difficulty and fear of communicating with other individuals . This also is called modern which implies a sense of despair , alienation , loss , loneliness , break with tradition . 2- He lived in France and wrote in French before his plays were translated . |
