المحاضره الاولى
-بدأ بتعريف البحث

Research:
-The systematic investigation into and study of materials and
sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
وقال ان اول خطوة في البحث تكون
feeling problem اي الشعور بوجود مشكله .....
بعد ما شعرت بالمشكله بمعنى وجود مسألة تبي تسوي عليها بحث عشان تلقى لها حل تجي المرحله اللي بعدها وهي
investigate for the solutions of the problem.
تبدأ تتقصى الحلول وتدور عليها عشان المسأله اللي انت كاتب بحثك عشانها
تجي عندنا المرحله اللي بعدها وهي
gather some data first
بمعنى اننا نبدأ نجمع المعطيات والحقائق
والحقائق هذي والمعطيات نجيبها من
different sources
وبالاخير

see what the cause of the problem was and testing some solutions until you reach the result .
نشوف شنو سبب هذي المشكله ونجرب بعض الحلول للوصول الى نتيجة مرضية
لذا عشان يكون عندي بحث وعشان اسميه بحث ضروري يكون عندي بالاخير نتيجة

والحين نرتب خطوات البحث

- steps of Research:
1- feeling problem is the first step of doing the Research
2- next step is .. Ask yourself "what should I do ?"
--> investigating the solutions of the problem.
3- then you'll start gather some data
4- see what the cause of the problem was and testing some solutions until you reach the result .
واذا ابي اسوي بحث لازم تكون عندي اساليب واسمها

وهو الاجراء اللي نسوي فيه البحث وللأساليب اللي فيها نسوي بحث كذا نوع

Design
وتعريفه:
It is a logical structure of the inquiry (research)
وطبعا تصميم البحث يعتمد على الأساليب اللي انا اتخذتها سواء تعتمد على البيانات الو الارقام
From the Methods I can design my research .
-الابحاث تختلف عن بعض على حسب المشكله او المعضله اللي تتكلم عنها فمثلا:

Types Of Research
Descriptive : to describe the situation > just describe without result.
Explanatory : just explore to explain the reasons
Ethnographic

The branch of anthropology that scientifically describes specific human cultures and societies

فرع من علم الانسان <

Experimental : it's Widely used in science, biology, chemistry, etc.
Case study : it's study on only very few # of people not many of them >>> just 1 or 3 or 10 at most
Longitudinal : study of something at different points in time
cross-sectional : study of something at one point in time

Quantitative: collect data through some tools and you quantify them.
Qualitative: collect data through some tools and you explain and discuss, argue, hypothesis and philosophy them.
عشان تقدم بحث لازم يحتوي على عشر عناصر مهمه ولازم تحفظونهم

Classical Report of Research

Abstract - Introduction - Literature Review - Methods - Data Analysis - Results - Discussion - Conclusion - Bibliography – Appendices
الخلاصة-المقدمة-مراجعة الأدب-الأساليب-تحليل البيانات-النتائج-المناقشة-الخاتمة-المراجع-الملاحق.

وهذي العناصر قد تقدم في البحث ك:
a chapter او a section
قسم أو فصل(باب)

وهذا يعتمد على نوع البحث وطوله
مثلا عندي
Theories و Dissertation>> doctoral message هذي مثل
طويله فتكون في
As a chapter
وتكون في ...
Articals و term paper
As a Section

اذاً :

*the 10 Items will be as a sections in Articals , and as a chapter in dissertation theories.
*we can put (Data Analysis - Results - Discussion) in one chapter , depending on their lengthy.
نبدأ بشرح عناصر البحث العشره:
Research

البحث هو...
Research is) Looking for new ideas and findings

تعريف مهم (

Abstract :

الخلاصه
- It's not get chapter for itself (why??) cause it is only one page or less .
- ودائما نلقاها بالمقدمه بجميع انواع البحث سواء قصير او طويل

(We find it in the beginning of the articals , dissertations and theories Research.(
وبالرغم انها تكون ببداية البحث الا انها ما تكتب الا بعد الانتهاء من كتابة البحث لانها تحتوي على نتيجة البحث المقدم
والخلاصه تعتبر كلمخص للبحث
- in Abstract we write the result of our Research.
-It is a Summary of the whole things

Introduction:
المقدمة

In Introduction we introduce the problem and the topic of our Research
في المقدمة نستعرض المشكله بشكل عام من غير تفصيل
We can put it in chapter (in dissertation or theories )
Or
we can put it in section (in Articals ) or in term paper (it's shorter than articals

There are 4 categories of Research :
Theories< longest
Dissertation< Long
Articals <Short
Term paper "Assignment"< Shortest

Literature Review :
مراجعة الأدب

تبحث عن الاشياء اللي لها علاقه بموضوعك
وتبحث عن مواضيعٌ مشابهه وتكتبها بطريقتك الخاصه

- It's important when you write this chapter , you must write it in your own way and you should avoid the plagiarism (steal other's text ).
- In Literature Review you going to read about your topic , the previous studies , similar to your study and then report it in your own words ( not copy & past ).

Methods :

الأسلوب

وهي عباره عن الاسلوب والطريقة التي تكتب بها بحثك
How are you doing your Research ?!

Data Analysis :

تحليل البيانات

بعد جمع البيانات احتاج احللها بطرق مختلفه لاظهار النتيجه
After you gather all your data ; you must analyze it.

Results :

النتائج

بعد ما حللت البيانات صار عندك نتيجه فتحدد المهم منها وتظهره بطريقه مميزه وممتعه
After you analyze your data = you have result or maybe enumerate result that you need select the important of them

but if you have few result you can report it all and present them in very interesting way.

Conclusion :

الخاتمة

البحث الطويل يحتاج لخاتمه
تكون ملخص عن البحث
لتذكر القراء بما قمنا به بالبحث
If our Research is very lengthy then we need put the Conclusion .
- It's summary about the Research and to remind readers what we have done through the Research.

Bibliography :

المراجع

الفهرس او قائمة المراجع
تعطينٌا اسماء الكتب وممكن تستخدم طريقه مميزة في تقديمها
You give us the list of books and articals.
- You use special way to present it ( AB style )

Appendices :

الملاحق
- تحتوي على نسخ من الاستبيانات والمقابلات التي استخدمتها في البحث الخاص فيك.
- تقدر انك تلحق في نهاية بحثك استبيانات, مقابلات, صور, رسوم بيانية و معلومات إضافية تكون مفيده لبحثك
- It's contains copies of questionnaires and interviews that you used in your Research .
- You can append in the end of your research Questionnaires , interviews , pictures, graphs, extra information's that useful to your research.

Abstract
الخلاصة
هي عباره عن ملخص للبحث كله
a summary of the whole thing
هي خلاصه قصيره لبحثك بالكامل أذا اتقنت كتابتها فانك بذلك تجذب القارئ لقراءة بحثك
An abstract is a short summary of your completed research.
If done well, it makes the reader want to learn more about
your research.
والعكس صحيح...
If we don't write a well Abstract = we may lose reader cause we have not make them interesting.
"summary" < it's very short & not long than one page
وهي قصيره جدا يعني ماتتعدى الصفحه
حجمه يختلف ويعتمدعلى حسب موضوع البحث
It is important to note that the weight accorded to the different components can vary by discipline.

وبالنسبه للنماذج حاول انك تتخذ اللي يكون مشابه لبحثك انتبه مو معناها نسخ ولصق وهذي الطريقه تجنبك من الخطأ في حجم بحثك

For models, try to find abstracts of research that is similar to your research and model it..

Components of an Abstract- عناصر الخلاصة

1-العنصر الاول (المكون)
وهو لماذا نحن نهتم المشكلة؟ ما الفجوة العملية والعلمية والنظرية أو فنية الذي تسدها البحوث الخاصة بك؟
وهذي اسميها عرض المشكله او الدافع ورا حلها
1) Motivation/problem statement: Why do we care about the problem? What practical, scientific, theoretical or artistic gap is your research filling?

2-العنصر الثاني(الأساليب أو المنهج)
شنو الخطوات اللي انت اتبعتها في حل المشكله
وهذي اقدر اسميها الاساليب او المنهج
2) Methods/procedure/approach: What did you actually do to get your results?

(e.g. analyzed 3 novels, completed a series of 5 oil paintings, interviewed 17 students)
3- العنصر الثالث
ما هي النتائج او ماذا استفدنا او تعلمنا من بحثنا
ونسميه نتيجة البحث

3) Results/findings/product: As a result of completing the above procedure, what did you learn/invent/create?
4-العنصر الاخير
نحدد اهم نتائج المترتبه على بحثنا وبالذات المتعلقه بالمشكله المحدده او بالفجوه الموجوده بالخطوه الاولى
ونسميها الخاتمه
4) Conclusion/implications: What are the larger implications of your findings, especially for the problem/gap identified in step 1?


عليك انك تتجنب عند وضع الخلاصة كذا نقطة
You must avoided when writing an ABSTRACT:
1- ان تهتم بالمقدمة وتترك النتيجه
! You give what is really an introduction, missing out what the results were
2-انك تقعد تقول كل شوي وش راح تسوي او شنو الخطوة الجايه او شنو سويت وهكذا
! You tell us what each section of the write-up is going to talk about (e.g. 'In the third
section we will describe the method'), not briefly what you did (e.g. 'The method we
used was...')
3-هنا يجب عليك انك ما تتكلم بصيغة المتكلم مثل نحن فعلنا او انا سافعل

! You include wording that refers forward like ‘… as we shall see…’. Again it is not
an introduction. It should read as referring back to the whole completed project
- متى احكم على الخلاصة بانها ضعيفه >An abstract could be described as poor one if
1-لما ماتكون كامله
-a.It is incomplete.
2-ما تقدم لي تفاصيل
- b.It doesn’t provide enough details.
3-ما تشد انتباه القارئ لها
- c.It does not grab the attention of the reader.

How to choose a topic?
كيف تختار الموضوع ؟

-يجب ان يبين البحث
Research should demonstrate:
شغلتين
1- المهاره البحثية الواسعه في المجالات ذات الصله
a.Research expertise in the relevant field.
2- وان يكون البحث على مستوى مناسب من الأصاله
b.An appropriate level of originality.

Originality الاصالة
الاصاله تعني ان يكٌون موضوع البحث جديد لم يبحث به احد قبلك و لا يعني ذلك خلق كلمات جديده
او تغير الكلمات ..فبعض الاحيان الاصاله تكون من خلال ايجاد طرق مختلفة للقيام بالبحث
new ways .. means a little different from another


ولتحقيق ذلك ذكر طريقتين
To achieve the above mentioned demonstration, there are 2ways like…..

1- بواسطة قطعة من العمل الذي يطبق الأفكار القائمة (مثل النتائج والنظريات والأساليب البحثية السابقة)

إلى نطاق جديد (على سبيل المثال يقدم تحليلا المختص البيانات الجديدة من حيث نظرية أو النهج الحالي).
a.By a piece of work which applies existing ideas (e.g. previous findings, theories, research methods) to a new domain

(e.g. provides a competent analysis of new data in terms of an existing theory or approach).
2- بواسطة قطعة العمل التي تقترح تقرير جديد ومثير للاهتمام (ربما نظرية جديدة) من البيانات الموجودة
b.By a piece of work which proposes a new and interesting account (maybe a new theory)

of existing data< The highest attainable level of originality would be to propose a novel theoretical account of novel data
^^ means .. try to find something novel ( something very very new ) No one research that before يعني ان تجد طريقه جديده لم يسبقك لها أحد !!



اذا كنت تريد اختيار موضوع عليك النظر في بحوثات سابقه انظر الى اين توقفت تلك البحوث فان ذلك
سيعطيك فكره
للاستمرار .....
if you want choose a topic go to previous research

see where that research stopped and continue from that research.
هناك شروط يجٌب ان تتوفر اثناء اختيارك للموضوع ... قسمها الدكتور ل3
- اختيارك للموضوع يجب ان يكون مثير ومحفز للفضول الفكري عندك .ويحٌافظ على اهتمامك طوال فترة العمل به
- The topic should be one which excites and stimulates your intellectual curiosity, and which is going to retain

your interest throughout the period you work on it.
- ان يكٌون له صله مباشره بطموحاتك المهنيه المستقبليه .. يعٌني ماتود ان تكون عليه بالمستقبل .

أو أهميته خاصة في السياٌق حيثٌ يمكنك العمل بشكل طبيعٌي(خاصة إذا كنت معلما
- It may also be a topic which has some direct relevance to your future career aspirations, or special

importance in the context where you normally work.
- يجب ان يكون الموضوع يشٌعرك شخصيا بالثقة والقدرة على اثقان العمل ضمن الوقت المتاح للبحث الخاص

بك لذلك من المهم ان لا يكون واسع النطاق اختيار موضوعك ..اي اختاٌر موضوع محدود
- The topic should be one which you personally feel confident that you are able to master within the time available

for your research. it is important not to be too wide-ranging in your choice of topic


هناك عدة اسباب وراء اختياٌرك موضوع غير واسع النطاق (محدود)
1-البحوث الادبيه القائمه تنمو بوتيرٌة سريعٌة لم يعٌد من الممكن مواكبت الادب في حقل اوسع لذا تضيق موضوع بحثك يقلل من حاجتك للقراءة وهذا يسهل عليك كثيرا
the existing research literature is growing at
such a rapid pace that it is no longer possible to keep up with the whole of
the literature in a broad field, so that narrowing down your research topic
reduces your background reading too much more manageable proportions

2 كلما كان الموضع الذي تختاره اوسع نطاقا وأكثر انفتاحا كلما قل احتمال ان يتم انهاءه في الوقت المحدد وتضع نفسك تحت ضغوط ماليه وعاطفيه وفكريه لا لزوم لها
the broader the topic you choose, the more open-ended your
research becomes - and the less likely it is that you will complete it on
time (so putting yourself under unnecessary financial, emotional and
intellectual pressure).


وجهة نظر ..

موضوع اكتساب لغة ثانيه موضوع واسع جدا وقابل للاستمرار على عكس اختياٌرك لموضوع دراسة حالة تطو رٌ الضمائر الشخصيه

والقواعد لطفل بلغ من العمر سنتينٌ سيكٌون اكثر محدودية وأسهل في التحكم والاداره
‘Language Acquisition by Bilinguals' is far too
broad to be viable as a research topic; by contrast ‘A case study of the
development of personal pronouns in the grammar of a two-year old
bilingual child' is a much more restricted and hence more manageable
research topic.


Introduction chapter

You start telling us a lot of detail about the method and your results at this point !
Detailed research questions and hypotheses… premature to give them here !

أي عبارة امامها علامة تعجب خاطئة
× 2والنتائج الخاصة أن تبدأ بحثك بالكثيرٌ من التفاصيل حول الاسلوب ..× .. ان تبدأه باسئله بحثيه وفرضياٌت

In Introduction chapter:

1- Tell the reader about the topic
2- after telling the reader what the topic is, you move on to Reasons for doing the work, e.g
3- Present the research as having wider implications
4- outline of what will come in the chapters/sections that follow comes at The end
5- importance as a research topic in itself, in the context of current knowledge in the relevant field
6- You can give brief definitions of some key terms to be used later
