Who wrote this poem?
William Blake was born in London in 1757. He was an English poet, painter and engraver. His family was middle –class one.Thus, he didn't receive any formal education. he studied only how to write and read. Then, for 7 years he became an apprentice for a famous engraver. He married Catherine Boucher who helped him to produce Blake's collection of poems and drawings called Songs of Innocence and Experience. In song of innocence Blake described life as it seems to innocent children. In song of Experience he showed a mature person understanding of pain and terror. He was one of the greatest lyric writers and a great member of romanticism. He wrote many poems such as 'the "tiger"," Jerusalem' and "the sick rose". He died in London in 1827. ------------ The Form: it consists of two stanzas. Each one is a quatrain. -------- Paraphrase: In these two quatrains, the poet is addressing the rose to inform it about its sickness. The cause of its sickness is the love between the rose and "the invisible worm." this worm" has stolen into the bed of rose under the cover of night "in the howling storm". The dark secret love of this worm is destroying the rose life. ------------- Theme: the poet speaks about the sickness of a beautiful rose saying that it is because an invisible worm's love. This worm destroys the innocence of the rose. Here the poet describes what happened in a small part of garden to show us what happened in real life. The poet explains moral issue that is the taboos of wrong relationship and how these relationships destroy people's life. ------------- Figures of Speech apostrophe: in the 1st line of the 1st stanza, we have an apostrophe. the poet is addressing the rose ,which is nonhuman, as if it were human and could answer.( O' Rose) --- images: there is too much visual images such as in 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the 1st stanza(………you should write the images….) there is an auditory image in the 4th line in the 1st stanza, " in the howling storm" --- personification: in the 1st line of the 1st stanza the poet compares the rose to the sick person in the 2nd line of the 1st stanza the poet compares the worm to a person in love --- *****************phor: in 3rd line of the 1st stanza "that flies in the night" the poet compares the worm to bird ----------- Symbol : the whole poem is based on symbolism. We have many symbols>such as: rose>> beauty - love - soft - innocence worm>> evil - envy - selfishness - death. Night>> darkness. storm>> destruction. ------------- The Tone: is pessimistic, sad, gloomy and terrifying ------------- Sounds and Sense alliteration: the repetition of the first consonant sound of important words such as in the 3rd line in the 1st stanza "that - the", in the 4th line in the 2nd stanza " does - destroy" --- consonance: the repetition of final consonant sound of important word such as in the 1st line of the 2nd stanza we have consonance "found - bed" in the 2nd line in the 1st stanza "that - night" --- assonance: the repetition of same vowel of important word such as "worm - storm" "out - found - found - howling" "joy - destroy" "dark - art" "life - flies - night" --- onomatopoeia: there an onomatopoeia in the 4th line in the 1st stanza "in the howling storm" howling is a nature sound of wind and wolf ------------- The Rhyme Scheme: the poem consist two stanza each one is a quatrain. ؟Who wrote this poem Henry William Davis or Davies, was born in 1862. Henry attended school in Kanarra. There were no schools above the elementary grades at that time so his education was limited. But he learned much form the every-day experiences of life and took advantage of every opportunity afforded him to increase his knowledge. He was a farmer all his life, but worked at other jobs in order to make a better living for his family. He was interested in civic affairs. He was always willing to work for the good of the community and people in it. His children were aware of their father's good qualities. Florene wrote of him:"Dad was a good, honest, hard working man. He was most generous. If he saw anyone in need, especially widows and children, he would be there to help. he died in 1936 ----------------- *The Form: the poem consist of seven stanzas each one is a couplet ---------------- Paraphrase the 1st stanza: the poet wonders about the value of life if it is full of worries ,problems and troubles that make people unable to look deeply at the nice things in life --- the 2nd stanza: the poet says when life is full of worries people will not be able to stare at nature like sheep and cows --- the 3rd stanza: the poet says because people has many worries, they have no time to enjoy the image of squirrel hiding their food --- the 4th stanza: the streams are glittering because of the sun beams or light just like real stars in the sky at night. And because of there worries, people have no time to enjoy this beautiful image --- the 5th and 6th stanza: here the poet speaks about nature comparing it to a beautiful girl who is dancing and having a beautiful smile on her face. He says that because of there business people have no time to just glance the beautiful nature --- the 7th stanza: finally the poet ends his poem with his point of view about life saying how life will be if it was full of trouble , problem or worries. He says that life will be without meaning and tasteless because it doesn't give us any time to enjoy the beauty of nature ------------ Theme: the poet speaks a bout the value of life if it were full of worries and problems. He believes that people who choose to live in troubles will miss there chance to enjoy the beauty around them. -------------- The Tone: series of meditation with a touch of sadness ------------- Figure of Speech Image: there is many visual image in this poem such as in 3ed line of 2nd stanza --- in 5th line of 3rd stanza --- in 6th line of 3rd stanza --- in 7th line of 4th stanza --- in 8th line of 4th stanza ----------------- Personification. In 5th and 6th stanza the poet compares the nature to a beautiful girl who is smiling and dancing with happiness. In 4th line of 2nd stanza. The poet compares sheep or cow to person who is staring ---------------------- Simile: in 4th line of the 2nd stanza the poet compares people to sheep and cows. comparative word>> as long as ----- comparative idea>> both of them staring at nature ---- in 8th line of 4th stanza the poet compares the glittering of the water in streams to the glittering of stars in sky ----- comparative word>> like ----- comparative idea>> both of them is glittering ------------------- The Rhyme Scheme the poem consists of 7 stanzas ,in each stanza the two lines rhyme together care...(a) stare...(a) boughs...(b) cows...(b) pass...(c) grass...(c) daylight...(d) night...(d) glance...(e) dance...(e) can...(f) began..(f) Care... Then they talk about doctor who did not came because he was out as Mrs Slater say but she is a lier.
Then Mrs Slater asked her sister to go up stairs and look at her father or to have tea but Mrs Jorden prefer to take the tea first. -Then they talk about the announcement and every one of them suggested a phrase. -Mrs Slater told her sister that she never heard that her father had promised Jemy to give him his gold watch |
