For this reason, the development for the Civil Defense was Chosen. To do the development, first, the objective must be defined. Then the current status must be described. Then identify the strength points and weakness points. Finally, put the improvement plans and recommendations to solve the problems. In the end of this project, some problems were found such as: lack in the equipments and resources. Objectives: The aims for this project: 1) Investigate the Civil Defense Foundations requirements.2) Apply the principles of quality improvement. 3) Increase the efficiency of the services. |

Analysis study of services provided by the Municipality of Tulkarm

Dwaikat الطلاب: Noor Abu Salah Rana Al Dunbuk Ruba Jallad Rita Farekh Raghad Fraij القسم: Industrial Engineering الملفات: design_of_website.ppt Tulkarm Municipality was established in 1886, when the Ottoman government appointed Mr. Saleh Haj Ahmed Awad representative and the mayor of Tulkarem, the population's in that period about three thousands people, where the reason for the establishment of the municipality for such a small number of the enjoyment of the town is the location of commercial, agricultural, as it distinguished the city linking the northern part of Palestine coastal with southern and eastern section, the lines of communication forum (cars, trains) bettheyen Haifa and Jaffa and Jerusalem, and controls approximately 38.275 acres in that period. The tasks of municipality in that period are: 1) Providing services to the population – such as securing water. 2) Overseeing the planning and construction of street paving, cleaning and lighting infested with jellyfish. 3) Reporting on the deadly epidemics of the Ottoman Empire and to provide necessary medical assistance. 4) Control offerings that are sold for meat to the population. 5) Granting of licenses for professions and industry. 6) Levying certain fees and taxes of the population. Now with the development of population and urban expansion, the tasks of Tulkarm Municipality they're developed and diversified divisions. It became a made up of several sections:
1) Electrical department. 2) Water and Sanitation department. 3) Department of Health. |

Decision Support System

It is used to estimate the effects of various variables and changes in the systems. And it provides an alternative approach for problem solving that are very complex mathematically. This project has considered operations, delivery and emergency departments for Rafeedia Hospital in Nablus city as a case study for complex systems to be studied and analyzed using simulation techniques. It aims to Simulate hospitals current working situation which will enable related people to define weakness points that may raise risks and lower quality of services, and to use the analytical models as a decision support system “DSS” to compare alternatives (based on simulating its expected effects) to choose proper feasible solution for further development using ProModel software. The first department that was studied was the Operations Department; it suffers from very high percentage of utilization in the rooms in its current state. The maximum allowed utilization was 75%, and 25% of the room time must be idle for room preparation before each operation. All the main rooms have exceeded this limit, besides the waiting time in the system has been relatively long. The decision that can be recommended to improve the operations department was to add two more rooms to act as stand by rooms, one of them to hold the load of rooms 1 and 2, and the second room to hold the load of rooms 3 and 4. This scenario can withstand the current arrival rate and an increased arrival up to 13% since it could serve all patients without overloading beds and provide enough time to prepare the rooms between every two successive operations, and this was true for standby room’s comparison. It also keeps the average waiting time in the system at a low value that equals 10 minutes only, which was a great improvement. The second department was the delivery department which was considered as having a good current situation where the both the normal delivery beds and the caesarean delivery room kept a utilization below the maximum allowable value, while keeping the average waiting time in the system zero, which meant that each pregnant could be immediately served without waiting her turn. Moreover they were underutilized with no congestion in the queue lines of the department. Some scenarios were suggested and simulated in order to solve the under utilization problem, and to study the capability of the model to conduct future variables and changes in capacity, arrival, and pregnant distribution between normal and caesarean delivery. The last department was the emergency department that showed a good current situation considering the service, but with underutilized beds. Further scenarios were suggested and study to measure its capability through increasing arrivals by 30% showing that the department can withstand with this rate. |

Developing a Decision Support System “DSS” for Nablus Municipality Customer Service Center “CSC”
Using Discrete Event Simulation “DES” السنة الأكاديمية: 2010 Supervisors: Tamer Haddad الطلاب: Walaa Asaad Abdullah Ramadan Seema Emad Adel Esatayteyah Nahed Wadah Abd-allah Anaya Ayat Shareef Abd-Alraof Sawafta القسم: Industrial Engineering الملفات: Chapter_1_2003_new.doc The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the current situation of the customer service center (CSC) in Nablus municipality, and detect the design errors in order to improve it especially queuing lines problem. To do so, a comprehensive diagnostic study about CSC has been done to understand internal relationships, bonds, & available resources such as (Employee, Equipments, etc) with cooperation with CSC employees. Needed relevant Data was collected in order to build the current model and suggest improvement, and the models were built using ProModel software, so that the out comes evaluated and the suitable recommendations were put. For the current situation, it was clear that the center employees work load is relatively low, so that we to improve new municipality services quality by adding it to the center. In the current situation scenario, it has been shown that the work load in the finished transactions was high in comparison to the work load in the receive transactions stations, so we recommend to choose one of the receive transactions employees, mostly the one who was occupying the station near finished transactions stations and to transform him to a mix employee, which meant that if the work load in the receive transactions was high he would work as a receive transaction employee, and if the work load was higher in the finished transaction he could work as a finished transactions employee, in this way we could reduce the utilization and queue length in the finished transactions stations. When the work pressure was doubled, there was a problem in the average number of customers in the system and average waiting time in the system in the peak intervals during summer, so we recommend the center to corporate with the municipality information technology department to put creative solutions aiming to reduce the required time for every customer especially in the most frequent services, in general the current situation is suitable. |

Experimental study of orthogonal cutting Using Lathe Tool Dynamometer (PE1)

As metals are still the most widely used materials in manufacturing, machining processes are usually used for metals. However, machining can also be used to shape plastics and other materials which are becoming more widespread. Basically all the different forms of machining involve removing material from a component using a rotating cutter. The differences between the various types arise from the relative motion between cutting tool and work piece and the type of cutting tool used. Typically machining will be done using a machine tool. This tool holds the work piece and the rotating cutting tool and allows relative movement between the two. Usually machine tools are dedicated to one type of machining operation, although some more flexible tools allow more than one type of machining to be performed. The machine tool can either be under manual or automatic (Computer Numeric Control - CNC) control. Automatic control is more expensive because of the need to invest in the necessary control mechanisms however it becomes more desirable as the number of components produced increases and labor costs can be reduced. The speed at which a machine tool can process individual components is a function of the cutting speed of the tool and the downtime involved in changing the work piece and maintaining the tool (this will usually involve changing the cutting edges of the tool). Some very flexible tools allow automatic changing of components and cutting tools, however they greatly add to initial purchase price of the machine tool. The cutting speed of the tool is usually dictated by the type of material being machined, in general the harder the material, the slower the machining time. Machining speed can be increased by increasing the rotational speed of the cutter; however this will be at the expense of the tool life. Hence for machining processes there is an optimum cutting speed that balances tooling costs with cutting speed. In order to dissipate the heat generated between the work piece and the cutting tool, cutting fluids are sprayed onto the tool. The cutting fluid also acts to remove cut material away from the cutting region and lubricates the tool - work piece interface but may require that the component is cleaned afterwards. It is important to view machining, as well as all manufacturing operations, as a system consisting of the work piece, the tool and the machine. The introduction topic in this section covers primers on topics like mechanics & shear bending in machining, and heat in machining. The traditional machining includes primers on turning, milling, drilling, and grinding. |

FOLDING BICYCLE
السنة الأكاديمية: 2010 Supervisors: Husam Arman الطلاب: Bayan Khlaif Rasha Tahlawi Remah Mashaqi Hanaa’ Sa’abna Wi’am At'out القسم: Industrial Engineering الملفات: folding_bike_project.doc هدف المشروع في بداياته إلى إنشاء فكرة جديدة لدى الواقع الفلسطيني , و هي تصميم و إنتاج الدراجة القابلة للطي. كان ذلك بهدف تقليل الحيز الذي تستهلكه أثناء الاستخدام و أثناء حفظها في الأماكن العامة , ولكي يتمكن المستخدم بكل أريحية حملها والتنقل بها حيثما شاء . تضمنت متطلبات التصميم الكثير من المزايا التي يجب توافرها في الدراجة كالوزن الخفيف , القوة و المتانة , التوازن , سهولة طيها .......... و غير ذلك . كان بالإمكان و بكل سهولة طي كل جزء من أجزاء الدراجة لتقليل الحيز قدر الإمكان , و لكننا في هذا المساق لن يتسنى لنا بسبب ضيق الوقت سوا طي جزء بسيط من الأجزاء الممكن طيها . و في نهاية المساق تمكن فريق العمل بمشيئة الله تعالى من انجاز ما هو مطلوب منه , حيث تمكن من إنتاج المنتج على أكمل وجه وفق ما هو مصمم له , إضافة إلى ذلك فقد قام الفريق بإعداد دراسة جدوى اقتصادية لتسويق المنتج في السوق المحلي و كانت نتائج الدراسة مجدية و مربحة . The project seeking to develop the scientific theory and linking the study with real life we are working on the folding bike project through the application of concept related to mechanical design and manufacturing where this represent the first part of the project while the second part is about feasibility study to study the Palestinian market and show its ready to accept this kind of bike. The outcome of the project is availability of this product (folding bikes )in the local marketing. |
