تعايشت القيم الدينية التقليدية مع القيم العلمانية الجديدة، في الواقع، بعض من أهم الانسانيون، مثل ايراسموس، كان أحد رجال الكنيسة.

وكان معناها الأصلي الإيمان في سريان الروح الإنسانية التي تزامنت مع تقوى الله. الآن، الإنسانية تشير إلى تمجيد الرجل .
