Media can represent a powerful source in society
The media can select what counts as news.
The media can who gets on the television, radio or newspaper.
Media plays important role in the ways through which information is told or presented
The media has become an integral part of most people's lives
يمكن لوسائل الاعلام ان تمثل مصدرا قوة للمجتمع :
1- يمكن للاعلام ان يحدد ما يعتبر خبرا
2-يمكن للاعلام الحصول على التلفزيون الراديو الصحف
3-يلعب دورا كبيرا في طريقة عرض المعلومات وتقديمها
4-أصبحت جزء لا يتجزأ من حياة معظم الناس

Linguistic representation is a level of language use which is concerned with the relation between how a story is told and how this can lead to different view or versions of the same story or event
Journalist (1)
narrates the event as they appeared
gives informative facts,
states official sources from police and hospitals, etc.
Reports facts objectively
Journalist (2)
openly refers to the ethnic community the involved individuals belong to.
Gives expected incidents.
Uses unofficial sources. E.g. Friends and personal experience

التمثيل اللغوي :هو مستوى استخدام اللغة التي تعنى العلاقة بين كيف يروى قصة وكيف أن هذا يمكن أن يؤدي إلى وجهة نظر مختلفة أو إصدارات من نفس القصة أو الحدث
مثال بين صحيفتين :
الاولى/ تحكي الحدث كما بدا .
الثانية / يرجعون بصراحة الى المجتمع العرقي الذي ينتمي الافراد له .
الاولى / تعطي المعلومات الحقيقية .
الثانية / تعطي المعلومات المتوقعة .
الاولى /من مصادر رسمية .[ من الشرطة والمستشفيات، الخ ]
الثانية / مصادر غير رسمية .[ من الأصدقاء وتجربة شخصية ]
الاولى / تقارير حقائق موضوعية .
الثانية / تقارير حقائق ذاتي .
Sources of news
The factuality level of a source is very important.
Examples of unreliable sources:
- A friend of Mr. Carling is reported as saying ….
-He told me later that ……
These are examples of third- or fourth-hand source of information because the reported information is difficult to retrieve or verify
مصادر الاخبار :
يجب ان يكون المصدر موثوقاً / مهمة جداً
أمثلة من مصادر غير موثوق بها:
- وتفيد التقارير صديق السيد كارلينج قوله ....
-قال لي فيما بعد أن ......
هذه أمثلة من مصدر ثالث أو رابع يد المعلومات لأن المعلومات الواردة من الصعب استرداد أو التحقق
Commonsense Discourse
Discourse is used in linguistics with a range of meanings. It can refer to
Any piece of connected language which contains more than one sentence.
It refers to conversations.
Commonsense Discourse
The prevailing way that a culture talks about or represents something is called the dominant discourse
Ex.
a. I want to go to the forest and try to understand what the plants are saying
b. I want to go to the forest to be inspired by nature.
الخطاب
يستخدم الخطاب مع مجموعة من المعاني وهي ترجع الى :
اي قطعة من اللغة التواصلية التي تحوي اكثر من جملة أنه يشير الى المحادثات
الخطاب المنطقي:
الطريقة السائدة , المحادثة حول الثقافة أو يمثل شيئا يسمى الخطاب السائد .
مثال:
اريد ان اذهب الى الغابة واحاول فهم ما يقوله النبات
اريد ان اذهب الى الغابة لاستوحي من الطبيعة

The Power of Change
Media can lead to different changes in the society:
1- The use of non-sexist language
Eg. The use of grammatical forms which are neutral such as the third person pronoun being a non-specific-gender pronoun
Eg: Gender-specific nouns: fireman, chairman
Gender-neutral nouns: firefighter, chairperson
Example of sexist language
The athlete should get the appropriate amount of rest before his match.
Correction:
The athlete should get the appropriate amount of rest before his/her match.
قوة التغيبر:
الاعلام قد يؤدي الى تغيير في المجتمع .
- استخدام لغة لا تميز بين الجنسين
على سبيل المثال. استخدام أشكال النحوية والتي تكون محايدة .. كونه ضمير غير محددة بين الجنسين
على سبيل المثال:
الجنس محددة : رجل اطفاء، رئيس
الأسماء على الذكر والأنثى: إطفاء , رئيساً [ نقدر نستخدمه للذكر والانثى ]
Most job titles that were gender-specific in the past have an equivalent gender-neutral synonym today
Examples
mailman .. mail carrier, postal worker
waitress/waiter .. server
saleswoman/salesman .. Sales representative, sales clerk

chairman ..chair,
معظم المسميات الوظيفية التي كانت محددة بين الجنسين في الماضي لها مرادف محايدة بين الجنسين يعادل اليوم

ساعي البريد .. البريد النقال ،.عامل البريد
نادلة / النادل .. الخادم
بائعة / بائع .. مندوب مبيعات، موظف مبيعات
شرطية / الشرطي .. ضابط شرطة
عضو الكونجرس .. ممثل الكونجرس
رئيس .. كرسي، رئيساً
.. وانتهيت من المحـآضرة الرآبعـة "
