Gerund Form.......صيغة الفعل/المصدر...

A gerund is the base form of a verb + -ing.
صيغة الفعل بشكلها الأساسي الكلمة(بدون اضافات)+ ING

Gerunds can be used as nouns
ممكن تستخدم كـ nouns

work+-ing=working
pay+-ing=paying
improve+-ing=improving

Gerunds as Subjects

A gerund can be the subject of a sentence. It is always singular. Use a third-person singular verb after a gerund

صيغة الفعل لمن تجي Subjects
-دائما تكون مفردة
-الشخص الثالث -اللي هو ممممم لو كانت الجمله عن SHE-HE-IT ف هيكون فعلها فيه S في الاخر تعود لهم
مثال
Voting is an important responsibility >>>>>اIS يعود على VOTING
Choosing a candidate takes time.<<<<< كذا takes تعود على Choosing

بالمختصر...
Subjects تأتي قبل الفعل (V+ing )

الفعل الأول يجي فيه ING هاد Gerunds as Subjects

والفعل الذي يلحقه+ S (ع حسب الجمله فعل لاحق is أو s في اخر الفعل اللاحق متل takes

Be Careful! انتبهوا
Don’t confuse gerunds with the
present progressive verb form.

يعني اذا سبقت الكلمة اللي فيها ING بفعل (BE) اللي هم ( -am-is-are-was-were )
يكون هنا present progressive مو Gerunds

مثال
I am voting today.,,,,, هااا

هنا لانه voting سبقت ب am صارت present progressive

Voting is an important responsibility.....مافي شي يبقى كذا Gerunds as Subjects

A gerund can be the object of certain verbs.
ممكن يجي object لفعل معين مثل
I suggest improving our schools
verb هنا suggest بس والـobject حقها improving
وهنا كذلك
I enjoy working for the people.
verb هنا enjoy بس والـobject حقها working

الكلمة اللي تجي فيها ing لفعل معين تصير Gerunds as Objects

we often use go + gerund to describe activities

احيانا بنستخدم go + gerund لنوصف الفعل
(go-goes-went )

تصير كذا
(S. -V.((go-goes-went )-O.(V+ing
>>>V+ ING هي اللي describe activities

متل

john went jogging with his dog

Either \or questions the speaker's voice goes up one of the two items ...up in the first..down in the second
لو كان السؤال Either \or اختياري اجابته ...ف السؤال برتفع مرة الصوت بالاول وينخفض في الثاني متل
