A paragraph is a group of related sentences about a single topic. The topic of a paragraph is one, and only one, idea. The first word in paragraph is moved to the right about one-half inch. this is called indenting the first word. Also, there is blank space down both the left sides of the page. These blank spaces are called margins .
Each paragraph that you write for this class should have a title. A title tells the topic of the paragraph in few words . a title is short. It may even be one word. A title is usually not a complete sentence.
Examples :
My class room
Friendship
My best friend
How to play American Football
Shopping for Used Car
How are some rules for writing paragraph for this class
1 – write the title of your paragraph on topic line .
2 – leave margins ( blank spaces ) of about an inch down the left and right sides of your paper. Don't write to the edge of the page.
3 – skip a line , and begin writing on the third line.
4 – indent the first sentence about one-half inch from the left margin.
5 – begin each sentence at the end of the preceding one. ( don't start each new sentence on a new line )
6 – write on every other line. Writing on every other line leaves space for you teacher to make corrections and write comments.
7 – if a word is too long to fit at the end of a line, write the whole word on the next writing line. Don't try to divide a long word unless you know the rules for doing so. Guidelines for dividing words are given in Appendix D at the back of the book .

A sentence is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought .
9
Every sentence must have at least one subject and one verb in order to be a sentence. Some sentences must have other parts to express a complete thought . the man bought is not a sentence because it does not express a complete thought. We need to know what he bought .
Subject and verbs are the most important parts of sentence. In English, the subject of a sentence is always expressed except in command:
Hurry! ( We know that the subject is " you " )
The subject tells who or what something . it is a noun or pronoun .
10
The verb often tells the action. However, sometimes a verb doesn't tell an action. Sometimes it just links the subject with the rest of the sentence.
The most common linking verb are be, become, feel , look , seem , smell , sound, and taste.

End – of – sentence punctuation
A sentence ends with a period (.) , an exclamation point ( !_ ) , or a question mark (? ) .
A sentence normally ends with a period. If a sentence is a question, use a question mark
You can use an exclamation point after words , phrases , or sentences to show storing emotion and after an urgent command.
13
Capitalization five rules
In English, there are many rules for using capital letters. Here are five important ones .
1 – the first word in a sentence .
2 – the pronoun I alone.
3 – names of people and their titles
But not a title without a name
Exception: a title without a name is sometimes capitalized if it refers to a specific person .
4 – nationalities, languages, religions, and ethnic groups
Note: don't capitalize school subjects except names of nationalities, languages , religions , and so forth .
5 – specific place you could find on a map .

the subject in a simple sentence may be compound ( my brother ) i are completely different ) . the verb may also be compound ( they lau and cried at the same time ) what is important is that there is only one ject- verb combination in sentence
