Maggie is good with the outer world even with her parents and the dodsons despite their mistreatment to her. Maggie went throught many stages. When she wants to play with Tom and Lucy they would exclude her. She runs away to the gypsies, she is excited to live with them. Her imagination clashes with the reality as she thinks that she will live happily with the gypsies and she will be their queen. However, the reality shocks her because the outer world is unresponsive to her emotions. Also, the bankruptcy of her father causes her self-negation.
