Hamlet
The Dramatic significance of the Ghost
A- An atmosphere of supernatural mystery and fear
The Ghost in hamlet represents the supernatural element in this play and introduces an element of mystery and fear in it. The atmosphere of mystery is produced in the very opening scene when Marcellus asked, What, has this thing appeared again to night?". This sense of mystery is deepened when the Ghost looks offended by Horatio's speaking to it and then stalks away.
