The internet is a gigantic web which connects computers around the world. It allows people to share information about all sorts of subjects. It is now part of modern life. The first Internet was set up in 1969. Now people use the Internet to send and receive all sorts of messages from around the world. They can also look up train timetables, book holidays and plane tickets, and buy presents for their family and friends. But perhaps most people use the net for electronic mail (email). It is as quick to send an e-mail to someone in Australia as it is to send one to your friend. Anyone can use the Internet. It does not matter who you are, how old you are, or where you live. All you need is a computer, a phone, a modem and an Internet ACCOUNT
