كان المجتمع في نهاية القرن التاسع عشر يتوقع من المراه ان تلازم المنزل , تطبخ , تتحمل وتربي الاطفال . بغض النظر عن نشاطات المطالبه بحقوق المرأه مثل :(

women still had not received the right to vote in national elections by the century’s end. Moreover, employers generally discriminated against women by hiring them for menial jobs only and paying them less than men for the same work

كانت النساء مازلن غير قادرات على التصويت في الانتخابات الوطنيه بنهاية القرن . والاكثر من ذلك , كان ارباب العمل يمارسون التمييز ضد المراه بتوظيفهم بوظائف اقل قدرا ودفع رواتب اقل لهن من الرجال لنفس الوظيفه

يظهر ان لويز كانت امراه ضعيفة الاراده , احدهم ربما كان يقمع ارادتها من اجل السيطره على مصيرها

ونتيجة لذلك , خلال زواجها عانت من ظغط ربما كان هو الذي سبب لها ( مشاكل في القلب ) كما تشير اليه اول جمله في القصه
