I have questions confusing my in the forth lecture
you answer the root Q with always not free , I see it on the 13 lecture for the professor
and his answered was always free
also Q when we derive one word from another his answered was both
I need correction because the questions consider very important
OK, the answer for this concerning question is my own knowledge about Syntax.

Here is answer below:


A root is a word that carries the most significant meaning. It has no affixation. Thus, it is always free.
Consider the word: Horse, tiger, book.

They are free roots.

However, the confusing part is derived words such as treat-ment, respect-ful, govern-ment..

These are words with a root morpheme and a bound morpheme (derivational or inflectional)

Therefore, from my own understanding, I 'd say that roots, which contain no affixes, are always free.
