the literature of the seventeenth century may be divided into :ينقسم القرن السابع عشر الى
two periods: الى قسمين
1- the puritan age or the age of milton [James &Charles العصر البيوريتانيه او ماتسمى بعصر ميلتون
2-the restoration period or the age of Dryden البعثه او الاستعاده او عصر درايدن

*the seventeenth century was marked by the decline of the Renaissance spirit تميز هذا العصر بانخفاض في روح عصر النهضه
*the writers either imitated the great masters of Elizabethan period or followed new pathsكانو الكتاب يحاكون كبار الكتاب في العصر الاليزابيثي او يتبعون طرقا جديده

*this spirit may be defined as:تعرف هذه الروح ب
1-observation الملاحظه
2-preoccupation with details انهماك &تفاصيل
3- a systematic analysis of facts التحاليل النظاميه للحقائق
4-feelings and ideas المشاعر&الافكار

*In other words:تعريف اخر وهو التعريف الشائع
it was the spirit of science هي روح العلم

*this new spirit of observation and analysis:ابرز صفات هذا الروح الجديد روح الملاحظه والتحليل
*biography [an account of someone’s life ] السيره الذاتيه وهي اشهر فن
*which was Unknown During the sixteenth Century لم يكن معروف في القرن السادس عشر
*thus whereas we have no recorded information about the life of such an eminent dramatist as Shakespeare يقوم الكتاب بتدوين معلومات عن حياه شخص ما ك كاتب بارز مثل شيكسبير

*seventeenth Century many authors like:كتاب هذا القرن مثل
1- fuller
2- Aubery

[collected and chronicled the smallest facts about the great men of their own day or of the immediate past]
