مثال المرأة جين ..خلونا نعرف الشخصيات ونشوف طريقة كلامها
مع والديها ومع صديقها
Consider, for instance, the following case of an upper middle- class, Anglo-American young woman named “Jane,” in her twenties, who was attending one of the author (Gee)courses on language &communication هنا نبذه عنها وهي فتاة من الطبقة المتوسطة انجلو امريكية بالعشرين من عمرها اسمها جين طبعا هي

انضمت لصف يناقش اللغات الاجتماعية
The course was discussing different social languages &, during the discussion, Jane claimed that she herself did not use different social languages in different contexts, but rather, was consistent from context to context
جين ادعت انها ما تستخدم أكثر من لغة اجتماعية واحده
In fact, to do otherwise, she said, would be “hypocritical,” a failure to“be oneself

قالت ان اللي يستخدم اكثر من لغة اجتماعية يعتبر منافق ولا يمثل نفسه
In order to support her claim that she did not switch her style of speaking in different contexts & for different conversational partners, Jane decided to record herself talking to her parents & to her boyfriend
عشان تثبت كلامها انها ماتستخدم الا لغة اجتماعية وحده قامت سجلت نفسها وهي تكلم والديها وصديقها بنفس القصة

نجي للقصة وشخصياتها واحداثها
In the story, a character named Abigail wants to get across a river to see her true love, Gregory
بطلة القصة اسمها ) ابيجيل ( كانت تبي تعبر النهر عشان تقابل حبيبها اسمه ) قريقوري ) A river boat captain
(Roger) says he will take her only if she consents to sleep with him. In desperation to see Gregory, Abigail agrees to do so.
الكابتن اللي بيعبر بها النهر اسمه ) روجر ( قال لها انو راح يوصلها بشرط انها تنام معه ووافقت الهبله طبعا عشان تشوف حبيبها
But when she arrives & tells Gregory what she has done, he disowns her & sends her away
لما وصلت ل قريقوري قالت له اللي صار وقام طردها تستاهل الغبيه ومن حسن حظنا ان القصه ماهي تركيه والا كان ما انتهت بهذه السهوله
Students in my class had been asked to rank order the characters in the story from the most offensive to the least

هنا الأستاذ اللي حضرت جين في صفه طلب من الطلاب انهم يحددون من الشخصية الأسوأ بالقصة
In explaining to her parents why she thought Gregory was the worst (least moral) character in the story, the young woman said the following

طبعا جين قالت ان قريقوري هو الأسوأ لكن تعالوا نشوف كيف أسلوبها وهي تشرح لوالديها ليش اختارته الأسوأ

Well, when I thought about it, I don’t know, it seemed to me that Gregory should be the most offensive He showed no understanding for Abigail, when she told him what she was forced to do He was callous. He was hypocritical, in the sense that he professed to love her, then acted like that

(( حسنا ، لما فكرت فيها ، مادري ، يبدولي ان قريقوري لابد ايكون هو الاسوا فيما بينهم ، ما تفهم ابيجيل لما اخبرته عن اللي انجبرت تسويه عشانه وكان قاسي معها ومنافق وتصرف بشكل مغاير )) لاحظوا اسلوبها بالكلام مع والديها بأدب حتى تكسب احترام وتعاطف والديها معها

نجي لأسلوبها مع صديقها وهي تحكيه نفس القصة
In this context she said- What that guy was, you know, her boyfriend I should hope, if I ever did that to see you, you would shoot the guy. He uses her & he says he loves her. Roger never lies, you know what I mean?

(( وش الانسان هذا.لو انا كنت مكانها اتمنى منك ان تقتله ،استغلها ، وهو كان يقول انو يحبها ، روجر الكابتن ماكذب يعني ماراح يكون اسوا من قريقوري عارف ايش اقصد ))

It was clear – even to Jane – that she had used two very different forms of language
من المثال اتضح لنا ان جين استخدمت لغتين اجتماعيتين مختلفتين وتفلسفت علينا على الفاضي بس
