Unit3 – A Perfect Job
Airy: full of air; with good ventilation.
Arch: a curved doorway, usually without a door.
Attachment: an extra piece (here, a hose to clean furniture that is attached or connected to a vacuum cleaner).
Attack: to fight against (here, to begin to work with great energy and enthusiasm).
Bureau: a large piece of furniture that is used to store clothing in drawers.
China closet: a large piece of furniture, usually with fancy glass doors, in which dishes and glasses are kept.
Comment on: to give an opinion about.
Cushion: a hard pillow (usually a sofa or couch has cushions on it)
Damp: slightly wet.
Drawer: a box with handles that is pulled out of a desk or bureau, used for storing things.
Dust: tiny particles in the air that collect on the top of furniture.
Mop: a cleaning tool on a stick, used to wash or remove dust from floors
Pantry: a small room for storage of kitchen things and food.
Perfect: not having any weak points or mistakes.
Play a few notes: to try to play a musical instrument.
Porch: a large room, usually not heated in winter, on the front or back of a house (Some porches have windows and screens; other are open).
Pots & pans: metal containers in which foods are cooked.
Rags: pieces of cloth used for cleaning.
Scrub: to clean with a brush.
Shake out: to hold onto one edge of (a cloth or rug) and move it up and down to remove dust and dirt.
Shine: to reflect light ( past tense = shone)
Silverware: knives, forks, and spoons used for eating and serving food.
Sparkle: to shine because of being clean.
Straighten: to put into order.
Sweep: to clean dirt from a floor with a broom.
Trash: garbage; things to throw away.
Window sill: a piece of wood at the bottom of a window frame.
Wipe: to use a cloth to clean the surface of.
