Chapter Thirty-Two:
Fielding leaves India. On his way to England, he visits Egypt, Crete, and Venice, and he is impressed with the beauty that he sees and feels. He felt that everything in Venice and Crete was right where everything in India was wrong, such as the idol temples and lumpy hills. Elsewhere there is form that India lacks.
Analysis:
Despite Fielding's liberalism and ability to appreciate India, he still lacks some ability to fully understand the culture and be entirely part of it. Fielding's escape from India is thus in some part an attempt to rejoin the western culture he abandoned during Aziz's trial.
