The word meta-theatre was first used by Lionel Abel in 1963, and the root of the word traced back to Greece though the word meta – which is used to indicate a concept which is an abstraction from another concept, and in the case of this word to indicate of a level of reality beyond the literal action.
Meta-theatre therefore is a theatrical device that is used either the play write or production to draw attention the artifice of the play. Through meta-theatre the audience are presented with the fact that they are watching a production, actors acting and quite often there is are explicit reference made to the literary artifice within the production. Meta-theatrical devises also include plays within a play, such as the Mousetrap in Hamlet, or the Mechanical’s production of Pyramus and Thisbe in A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream. The play within the play provides an onstage microcosm of the theatrical situation, highlighting the artifice of theatre through the examination of its form within its production.

Futurism
Tate Modern celebrates the centenary of this dramatic art movement with a ground-breaking exhibition. Futurism was launched by the Italian poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1909 with the publication of the Manifesto of Futurism on the front page of Paris newspaper Le Figaro. Drawing upon elements of Divisionism and Cubism, the Futurists created a new style that broke with old traditions and expressed the dynamism, energy and movement of their modern life. This exhibition both showcases the work of key Futurists such as Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni and Gino Severini and explores art movements reacting to Futurism. Highlights include Boccioni's dynamic bronze Unique Forms of Continuity in Space 1913 and Picasso's Head of a Woman (Fernande) 1909 as well as major works by artists such as Braque, Malevich and Duchamp.
Determinism
Determinism is the philosophical idea that every event or state of affairs, including every human decision and action, is the inevitable and necessary consequence of antecedent states of affairs.
More strictly, determinism should be distinguished from pre-determinism, the idea that the entire past (as well as the future) was determined at the origin of the universe.
Nor should determinism be confused with determination, the idea that events (including human actions) can be adequately determined by immediately prior events (such as an agent's reasons, motives, desires), without being pre-determined back to before the agent's birth or even back tothe origin of the universe.Determinism is a modern name (nineteenth-century) for Democritus' ancient idea that causal laws control the motion of atoms, and that everything - including human minds - consists merely of atoms in a void.
