ø it is a sonnet written by wordsworth from 14 lines.
earth hath not anything to show more fair:
dull would he be of soul who could pass by
a sight so touching in its majesty:
this city now doth, like a garment, wear
the beauty of the morning; silent, bare,
ships, towers, domes, theatres and temples lie
open unto the fields, and to the sky;
all bright and glittering in the smokeless air.
never did sun more beautifully steep
in his first splendor, valley, rock, or hill;
ne'er saw i, never felt, a calm so deep!
the river glideth at his own sweet will:
dear god! The very houses seem asleep;
and all that mighty heart is lying still!
the theme of the poem is about the beauty of city of london. So he admires the silence of the city when everything is sleeping like people, factories and everything. He was standing on westminster bridge and he was looking upon the city and it was early in the morning and then he sees the beauty of the city and likes the silence of the city because london is a very noisy city at the morning. So the theme of the poem is the beauty of city at the morning. There is a personification as he describes the building and houses are sleeping and this to show the silence. He says that his soul very much appreciating this scene and he wants people to share him in appreciating this scene. So, the pleasure here is the appreciation to this scene in the morning and this is the purpose. We are not paraphrasing but commenting or giving critical appreciation.
