He had made basis for post- colonialism from materialistic point of view not from formalistic p o v to observe literature as belonging to time in which it spreads. his books focus on colonizer and colonized.
His major concepts:
1-materiality of literature
A literary text is an object that we cannot treat it as an abstract ideas which is related to life surrounding environment of people. every text differs from each other \unwise to deal with the text from formalistic point of view(which means everything within the text)
2-Culture:
Heritage of specific race but how colonialism is related to the culture
Through mixing of two cultures =colonialism
He established the name of orientalism that means the picture of people belonging to the east. it indicates the concept of the other
=knowledge of having picture of the other gains us power upon that person.
3-Knowledge =power
To get knowledge about other can put power for scientific shape thus western have the right to guide other and give rules.
4-Filiation and affiliation
Filiation=bonds build on biological features
Affiliation relation on religious \ideology or intellectual society which lead to the individual freedom looking at wider perspective. So he found imperialism a mistake done by restricted authorities around the world.
