The Pre-Raphaelite Poetry
1- Braek with tradion,
they broke the set of tradition of poet like tennyson who revolte against the over concern of poet with the socio-political problems. They never concern with sordid realism but except the dream world of his work.
2-Medievalism,
The dream world was provided by the middle age, excersized a strong hold on the mind of roman like scott, keat & coleridge, medievalism of pre-raphaelite had a stable something defferent from romantic.Rossetti's many poems were redolent of spirit of medieval age.
3-Devotion to detail,
The rule bothered more about the particularthan the general. They do not wield abroad and hurried brush but love to linger on details was necessary, the tendency to linger on simple details is noticed. Cristable is the first pre-raphaelite poem. The details in painting is visual but in poetry it can be both auditoru and visual, the pre-raphaelite poets loves both.
4-Senseuosness,
Most of the pre-raphaelite were painter and poet. The pictorical element is more insisted in Rossetti, he thinks and feels in pigments اصباغ that leads them to excess, giving rise to two defects عيوب :
a)too much concern in details without thematical relevance.
b)excessive recourse to colorful decoration which within limits is pleasing enough.
5-fleshly school of poetry,
The Pre-raphaelite made no bones about exhibition of their voluptuous tendenciesالميل الحسي. Swinburne poetry were consider "fleshly" , he struk the reader with a intenes of a feeling of shock mixed by amazement.
6-Meter and Music,
The pre-raphaelite poetry is rich in music. Swinburne exhibits the merite مزايا and demerite عيوب of being over-musical. The excessive use of alliteration and and onomatopoeic effects make for a cloying اتخام sweetness. Swinburne's effects are harmonic rather than melodic.
