Lecture One
The Simple present tense
The simple present says that
Something was true in the past, is true in the present, and will be true in the future
It expresses general statements of fact and general truths
Examples:
Water consists of hydrogen and oxygen
The average person breathes 21.600 times a day
The world is round
The simple present is used to express habitual or everyday activities
Examples:
I get up at seven every morning
I always eat a salad for lunch
So the simple present tense uses
1- General truths
2-Routines and habits
3- Everyday activities: what do you do every day?
There are many words that can help to find out the Simple Present for example

Spelling rules
Third person verbs in simple present tense
1-Verbs ending in(Ch, Sh, SS, X)we add "es" to them
Examples:
(teach, box, glass, wash) -> (teaches, boxes, glasses, washes)
2-Verbs ending in consonant +"y" Remove the "Y" and change it to "ies"
Examples
Fly –> Flies
Cry -> cries
Try -> tries
marry -> marries
3-Verbs ending with "e" we add to it "s"
Examples
(file, drive, bake) -> (files, drives, bakes)
4-with do, go and have
Go become Goes
Do become Does
have become Has

Negatives in simple present tense
2 rules 1 for the plural and other fro the singular
1-Singular subject
(He, She, it) + do not (or doesn’t) + verb
* Remember to delete the " s" from the verbs for the singular (very important)
Example
He likes salad -> He does not like salad
Mohammad drives to his work -> Mohammad doesn’t drive
She has a lot of experience –> she does not have a lot of experience.
2-Plural subject
(me, you, us, and them) + do not (or don’t) + Verb
I like my job –> I do not like my job
they have benefits -> they don’t have benefits
we have nice boss -> we do not have nice boss

Questions in simple present tense:
Simply we use "does" for singular
And "Do" for plural
Also we remove the "s" from the verb when we change it to question and we put "?" in the end of the sentence
Example
He likes salad -> does He like salad?
She has a lot of experience –> does she have a lot of experience?
Mohammad drives to his work -> does Mohammad drive to his work?
