• A. I have withhold my opinion concerning the Palestine problem from the Arabs in order to avoid placing them in an embarrassing position with the Allies.

كنت افضل ان احتفظ برأيي تحاشيا ان اضع العرب في موقف حرج في هذه الآونة مع الحلفاء..
But because you are one of our friends , I wish to acquaint you with my opinion so it can be made known to the friendly American people, so might understand the truth of the matter.

First, I know of nothing that justifies the Jewish claim in Palestine. Centuries before the advent of Mohammed, Palestine belonged to the Jews. But the Romans prevailed over them, killed some and dispersed the rest.

• اولاً إنني لا أعلم أن لليهود مبررا لمطالبتهم بفلسطين، بدعوى أن فلسطين كانت قبل البعثة المحمدية بقرون لبني اسرائيل فقد تسلط عليهم الروم في ذلك الوقت وقتلوهم وشتتوا شملهم
• No trace of their rule remained. Then the Arabs seized Palestine form the Romans , more than thirteen hundreds years ago, and it had remained ever since in the possessions of the Moslems.

• ولم يبق أثر لحكومتهم فيها وقد إستولى العرب عليها من الرومان منذ الف وثلاثمائة سنة ونيف وهي منذ ذلك الوقت بيد المسلمين.
• This shows that the Jews have no right to their claim, since all the countries of the world saw the succession of different peoples who conquered them

• Those countries became their undisputed homelands. Were we to follow the Jewish theory, it would become necessary for many peoples of the world, including those in Palestine, to move out of the lands wherein they settled.

• Secondly, I am not afraid of the Jews or the possibility of their ever having a state or power, either in the lands of the Arabs or elsewhere. This is in accordance with what God has revealed unto us through the mouth of his Prophet in his Holy Book.

• ثانيا : إننا لم نخش من اليهود، ومن أن تكون لهم دولة أو وسلطة ، لا في بلاد العرب أو غيرها ، بموجب ما أخبرنا به الله سبحانه في القرآن ، على لسان رسوله الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم
• Thus I hold the demand of the Jews upon this land an error; first it constitutes an injustice against the Arabs, and the Moslems in general; and secondly it causes dissensions and disturbances between the Moslems and their friends the Allies; and in this I fail to see anything good.

• و نرى ان تشبث اليهود في فلسطين خطأ ،أولا لأن في ذلك ظلما للعرب والمسلمين عموما.ثانياً لان ذلك مما يورث الفتن والقلاقل بين المسلمين واصدقائهم من الحلفاء وهذا شيئ لافائدة فيه.
• Furthermore, if the Jews are impelled to seek a place to live, Europe and America as well as other lands are larger and more fertile than Palestine, and more suitable to their welfare and interests.

• ثم بعد ذلك إذا كان اليهود مضطرين إلى بلاد يسكنونها فبلاد أوروبا وأمريكا وغيرهما من البلدان أوسع وأخصب من هذه البلاد وأتم لمصالحهم.
• This would constitute justice, and there is no need to involve the Allies and the Moslems in a problem void of good.

• وهذا هو الإنصاف ولا فائدة من إدخال الحلفاء والمسلمين في مشكلة ليس من ورائها طائل.
As to the native Jewish population in Palestine, I suggest that the Arabs agree with their friends the Allies to safeguard the interests of those Jews, provided the Jews commit no action that might lead to strife and dissension, which would not be in the general interest,

• أما سكان فلسطين القدماء من اليهود ، فمن رأينا أن يتفق العرب مع أصدقائهم لحفظ مصالحهم ، على شرط ألا يعمل اليهود أعمالا تنشأ عنها مشاغبة أو فتن ، وليست في صالح الجميع ،
and provided the Jews give guarantee , endorsed by the Allies , that they would not strife to buy Arab property, and would refrain from using their financial power to that purpose.

• وأن يعطوا ضمانه ، بكفالة الحلفاء بأن لا يسعوا في شراء أملاك العرب التي هي حياتهم بما لليهود من قدرات مالية طائلة لأجل تنفيذ مقاصدهم ،
Such efforts would only bring to the people of Palestine loss and injury, and poverty and decay to their doors. Such efforts would inevitably lead to more trouble. On the other hand the Arabs would recognize the rights of the Jews and would guarantee to safeguard them.

• لأن ذلك ضياعا ومضرة لأهل فلسطين ويسبب لهم الفقر والإضمحلال ، وسيؤدي هذا في نهاية الأمر الى مزيد من المشاكل. وعلى الجانب الآخر فإن العرب سيعطون اليهود حقوقهم ويتعهدون بها.
