•The Irish literary movement was
•at the late 19th and early 20th century. It was called the "Irish literary renaissance" and the "Celtic twilight“.

• It aimed at reviving ancient Irish legends and traditions in new literary works.

•This movement was also a part of a political movement for independence from the British government. The renaissance was inspired by the nationalistic pride of the Gaelic revival; reviving the ancient heroic legends in the History of Ireland.

•This movement is relatively modern; it lasts from around 1890 to about 1992, the date of ending of the Anglo-Irish war.
•When Yeats met Lady Gregory and Synge, they decided to establish the Abby Theatre and to revive the Gaelic language and literature.

John Synge
•He is one of the important literary figures in the Irish movement.
•He was a critic but he studied the poetic language of the Aran Islands and he was inspired to wrote the most important plays in Ireland such as "the shadow of the Glen" and " Riders to the sea" which has the atmosphere of the Greek tragedy and the " play boy of the western world" which challenged the ideals of the Irish common people.

Actually, Synge is still remembered for his ability in using a rich Irish language and in introducing myth to the stage. Also, he used the speech and imagination of Irish country people.

•Those writers and others formed the Irish literary movement and created a new Irish literature.

•In fact, one should know the strong relationship between these writers and the towns and countryside that inspired their imagination. This takes the reader to places such as Galway, the Arand islands, Dublin and others along a long route visiting the cottages and castles.

•During the beginning of Irish literary revival, Galway became a gathering point for some the greatest writers in Ireland. It was there that Lady Gregory began her work recording the tales of the countryside, and John Synge found the inspiration for his life's work.

•Many others would find Galway a fertile place or good soil in which to plant a poet's imagination.
•Together these great Irish writers of the revival have created same of literature's great masterpieces and defined the character of the Irish nation that was waiting to be born.

•The irish literary revival was a period of much importance for the irish nation.
•It was the revival and the Abby theatre that brought the movement to redeem the Irish culture and language from the closed councils of a few to the life of the common person.
•Thus Ireland remembered her past and Yeats wrote in 1916 " all changed, changed utterly", " a terrible beauty is born".
