Non-equivalenceat word level means that the target language has no direct equivalent for a word which occurs in the source text.
The type and level of difficulty in translation at this level depends on the nature of non-equivalence.
Culture specific concepts which can be abstract or concrete as in the following examples: q Abstract: (privacy) . Speaker( of the House of Common) q A concrete example is airing cupboard which is unknown to Arabic speakers.
