Cognitive Approach: Language is rule-governed cognitive behavior (not habit formation)
المنهج المعرفي: اللغة هي قاعدة معرفية يحكمها السلوك ( وليس تشكيل العادة ) .

Affective-Humanistic Approach: Learning a foreign language is a process of self-realization and of relating to other people
منهج العاطفة الأنسانية : تعلم لغة أجنبية هو عملية لتحقيق الذات والتواصل مع الشعوب الأخرى .

Comprehension Approach: Language acquisition occurs if and only if the learner comprehends meaningful input
المنهج القائم على الفهم : إكتساب اللغة يحدث إذا المتعلم فهم المعنى المجدي .

Communicative Approach: The purpose of language (and thus the goal of language teaching) is communication
المنهج التواصلي : الغرض من اللغة ( وبالتالي هدف تعليم اللغة ) هو الإتصال .

1/ Approach: An approach to language teaching is something that reflects a certain model or research paradigm- a theory if you like
المنهج : منهج لتعليم اللغة لشيء معين ليعكس نموذج معين أو بحث لنظرية نموذج إذا أردت .

2/ Method: is a set of procedures, i.e., a system that spells out rather precisely how to teach a language
الأسلـوب : مجموعة من الأجراءات , أي نظام يحدد كيفية تعليم اللغة على وجه التحديد .

Technique: is a classroom device or activity (e.g. imitation and repetition)
التقنية : هو نشاط أو جهاز الفصول الدراسية ( مثل التقليد والتكرار ) .

** What is the solution for ESL/EFL teacher, given the abundance of current and future approaches? The only way to make wise decisions is to learn more about the specific approaches/methods/techniques available
ماهو الحل لمعلمين EFL / ESL , ونظراً لوفرة المناهج الحالية والمستقبلية ؟
- الطريقة الوحيدة لأتخاذ قرارات حكيمة هو معرفة المزيد عن المناهج الخاصة / وطرق التقنيات المتاحة .

** There are also three other issues the teacher has to take into consideration to make a good decision concerning the choice of an approach or method ( or a combination of both)
إيضاً هنالك ثلاث قضايا إخرى - المعلم يأخذ بعين الأعتبار إتخاذ قرار بشأن أختيار جيد للمنهج أو الأسلوب أو (كليهما) :

1. Assess student’s needs (why and for what purpose?
تقييم أحتياجات الطلاب ( لماذا ولأي غرض ) ؟

2. Examine instructional constraints (time, class size, and materials)
دراسة المعوقات التعليمية ( الوقت , وحجم الصف , والمواد ) .

3. Determine needs, attitudes, and aptitudes of individual students to the extent that is possible
تحديد الأحتياجات والمواقف واستعدادات الطلاب بشكل فردي لدرجة ممكنة .
