لا انا اذاكر من الكتاب ومن اللي أكتبه معهاا اللي تقول من الكتاب الأسود
اكيد بتلقينهم في محاضرة هيام وايماان Romantic Age Early 19th century poets (1798 - 1832 ) Romantic Age : Romantic age is referring indirectly to an interest in the charming , magical world of medieval " Romance" and more generally to rich imaginative activity displayed in that world , which is deeply characteristic of the late 18th century and early 19th century writers. Romance as " freely imaginative idealizing fiction " and not as " love between men and women " is the true basis for the term " Romantic age " , Romantic : originally reffered to highly imaginative medieval tales of knightly adventure written in the French from the origin Latin language . Chief characteristic of Romantic age : * Romantic writers emphasized imagination and emotions - 18th century writers stressed reason and judgment . * Romantic writer were concerned with the particular - 18th century writers were general or universal in experience . * Romantic writers championed the value of the individual human being - 18th century writer stressed the value of society as whole . * Romantic writers strove for freedom - 18th century writers sought to follow and to substantiate authority and the rules derived from authority . *Romantic writers took a revitalized interest in medieval subject and setting - 18th century writers took their primary inspiration from classical Greek and Roman authors . Historical Background : - the revolt by the English colonies in America against the economic and political control of the mother country . -French Revolution 1789 - French men had changed a war of self-defence for one of conquest , losing sight of all which they had struggled for . - the industrial Revolution ; the shift during the 18th century and 19th century from hand labour to new methods of manufacturing made by power - driven machines - James Watt perfected the steam engine in 1765 . - colonial expansion in 1805 after the Battle of Trafalgar England become the undisputed master of the seas and in control of the most . The foundation of English romantic poetry Lyrical Ballads : the real beginning of Romanticism With Coleridge (the lack poets \ along with Southey) - He was against “ poetic diction “ the term used to refer of the linguistic style , the vocabulary and ****************phors used in the writing of poetry . in the western tradition , all these elements were thought of as properly different in poetry and prose up to the time of the romantic revelation, when William challenged the distinction in his romantic manifesto, the preface to the third ( 1802) edition of lyrical Ballads - Wordsworth is considered to be a pantheist - The Excursion in nine book , is the middle part of great philosophical work which he planned but never completed. principles of writing poetry according to William word worth : - the language of poetry should be the language of ordinary men and women -the interest in nature as the great teacher of morals and the prime bringer of happiness Victorian age : historical and political background: - It began when Victoria succeeded her uncle , William IV and because Queen of England in 1837 she died in 1901. - During this period England became the world's wealthiest nation, and through the creation and expansion of the British Empire ,its dominant colonial power . -the Victorians had mixed feeling about their position as a world power : some celebrated the industrial development and prosperity of England . Other were less confident about England progress which they believed was being achieved at great cost to traditional human relationship . - the Victorians were veracious readers : they thrived not only on the massive novels of Dickens and Thackery but also on political and religious tracts. - the writers of the period offer a fascinating variety of artistic responses to a rapidly changing world that is not far removed from our own . - In order to clarify the main events and issues of this complicated period , it is convenient to divide the Victorian into 3 phases : early- middle- late . The early period (1832-1848): 1- The parliament passed the first Reform Bill in 1832 as the first democratic reform - It gave greater power to the middle class by extending the vote to all men owing property worth 10 pounds or more - It reduced the power of the upper- class landowners by the redistributing of parliamentary representation - It abolished the system of “ rotten borough “ :these with small population - It marked the emergence of the middle class as the dominant force in English politics . 2- In the early 1840 sever economic depression and wide spread unemployment led to working-class protest and rioting 3- The emergence of the “ chartists “ the first great organized working class movement of the industrial era 4- Potato blight in Ireland in 1845, and Corn Laws. 5- The policy of free trade made England begin to move toward greater prosperity and improved living conditions. The middle period (1848-1870) 1- England reached the height of its wealth and productivity as an industrial nation 2- London had become the world center for banking insurance and shipping 3- A new system of railways covered the country and played a vital role in England prosperity 4- Technological and scientific inventions amazed the world and promised even greater prosperity for the future 5- English political life during this middle period was dominated by complicated infighting between the Whigs and the Tories , or Liberals and conservatives as they were coming to be called 6- Putting the 1840 and the early 1850 leaders from both parties had joined in persuading parliament to pass a series of factory acts, which restricted child lab out and limited working hours . 7- In 1867 the second Reform Bill was passed which extended the vote to all members of the working class except agricultural laborers . it had a profound effect on the subsequent development of English political lite . The late period (1870-1901) 1- The last 30 years of Victorians reign appear on the surface to be contributions of mid-Victorian prosperity gradual reform and expansion during these years British Empire reached the height of its power and influence English imperialism not as a system of economic expansion and exploitation but as the realization of an ideal of the Anglo-Saxon race spreading its supposedly superior civilization through the world 2- The tow greatest jubilee celebration of 1887 and 1897 displayed the nations confidence with triumphant pomp and ceremony . 3- Beneath this surface , there were signs of new tension in Victorian lite a- The rapid emergence of chancellor otto von Bismarck Germany as a great military and industrial power began to pose a threat to England’s prominence. b- In 1890, the labout party arose to argue for an entirely new conception of relationship between the owners of industry and the workers. باقي كم نقطه ماكتبتها عندي في الجهاز =) اللي هي Victorian attitude + Victorian poetry بتلقينها في الملازم اكيييد |
