Modifiers
المعرفات
In our previous overview of phrases, we mentioned that each phrase has a head and one or more modifiers. Modifiers can be divided into two groups:
كما تم التحدث سابقا ,, لكل عبارة أو شبه جمله يوجد head رأس وكذلك يوجد واحد او اكثر من المعرفات modifiers والتي تقسم الى قسمين
1. Pre-modifiers are modifiers that come before the head.
المعرفات التي تاتي قبل الرأس
2. Post-modifiers are modifiers that come after the head.

In the following phrases, decide which of the underlined words is:
a. the head b. a post-modifier c. a pre-modifier
1. a big store
المعنى : متجر كبير
الكلمه الرئيسية بالعبارة هي المتجر , لذا يعتبر رأس head
وكلمة a big هي صفة للمتجر وتعتبر a pre-modifier
2. the store manager
المعنى : مدير المتجر
الكلمة الرئيسية بالعبارة هي مدير , وجاءت المتجر لتخصيص المدير بانه مدير بالمتجر
فيكون manager هو head
The و store تعتبران معرفات قبل الراس a pre-modifier
3. the leader of the group
المدير للقروب
الراس هو leader
المعرف اتى بعد الراس وهو of the group
فتكون الاجابه a post modifier
4. the group leader
مدير القروب
الراس : leader
The group كلها معرفات قبل الراس
اذن the تكون a pre-modifier
5. someone in my office
احد ما في غرفتي
Someone : الراس the head
المحددات Determiners
Determiners are words which specify the range of reference of a noun by making it definite (the book), indefinite (a book) or by indicating quantity (many books).
المحددات هي كلمات تاتي لتحدد الاسم بجعله معرّف أو غير معرّف او تحديد الكميه
Determiners can be either identifiers or quantifiers.
المحددات ممكن تكون معرفات او كميات
1. Identifiers tell us either definitely or indefinitely which noun the speaker means. They include:
المعرفات تشمل التالي :
a. Articles: a/an (indefinite articles), the (definite article)I
أدوات التعريف وهي a, an, the
b. Demonstratives: this, that, these, those
اسماء الاشارة
c. Possessive Forms of Personal Pronouns: my, your, his, her, its, our, their
ضمائر الملكية
2. Quantifiers tell us either definitely or indefinitely the quantity of the noun. They include:
الكميات وتشمل :
a. Numerals: one, two, three… (cardinal numerals); first, second, third… (ordinal numerals)
الاعداد وهي نوعين : الاعداد الاصليه / واحد اثنين ثلاثه
والاعداد المرتبه / الاول الثاني الثالث
b. Words like: much, many, each, every, a few, little, all, several, plenty… etc.
